Zoloft and SSRI Use During Pregnancy Linked To Birth Defects
A recent study by researchers in Denmark found that women who are given SSRI antidepressants during pregnancy face an increased risk of their child being born with a birth defect. Congenital heart defects were noted in 60% more infants exposed to SSRIs during the first trimester of pregnancy than those whose mothers did not take SSRIs.
Septal Heart Defects Linked to Zoloft
In a study aimed at showing the risks of heart defects as a result of expectant mothers taking Paxil (another SSRI based drug), it was found that Zoloft was actually associated with the septal heart defects, a defect in the wall that divides the heart’s left and right sides, according to WebMD.
